Suck so bad? Bounced in the first round of the tourney, just like last year. They have May back and have won two more games as a result. $2 million coach that chokes at every opportunity. God they suck.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Roy Williams' first trip to the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament was a short one.
Williams, brought back to his alma mater this season to lead North Carolina back to respectability, came up short Friday when Georgia Tech beat the Tar Heels in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament behind Jarrett Jack's 15-footer with 1.4 seconds to play.

So I treat some customers to lunch and some basketball at the local sports bar. The bar is not full but there are a fair amount of folks watching games. There are the UGA and Kentucky fans cheering for their teams and the lone Michigan fan wanting to catch his team against Iowa. And being in the Atlanta area there are a few Tech fans in the house for the UNC - Tech game. There are a couple of holes next to me and a table of the most obnoxious holes I've come accoss down here. Can't keep their yaps shut, especially during UNC's run from 11 points down to go ahead by one. So Jett hits the game winner and the bar errupts in the joy of the Tar holes defeat! Pure poetry.
There wern't a handfull of tech fans in the place. The moral of the story is, EVERYONE hates the Holes.
I'm sure in McCants' mind they won the game. LOL

I agree 100% ABH.
Question: Why didn't UNC foul when there were 9 seconds left? At least then, the chance of a missed shot was there and there would have been more time left on the clock to get a shot off. Those last seconds really pissed me off.
I hope that it ends up being a Georgia Tech - Wake final.

unc was only up 1 tubs. Not sure whether Tech was in the bonus or not.
You also run a risk of the ref deciding it is an INTENTIONAL foul which is 2 and possession.
Now if unc had been up three? THEN I think you have a valid question.

Just like I said...would you talk with respect if they had lost? "No" is the obvious answer. Dread wanted proof? Well, here it is, among all places.
Personally, I'm not pissed at all. The comeback was valiant, to say the least, especially since we're usually on the other side of such ones.
A few notes:
Die Jawad Die. Four...FOUR...missed lay-ups in a matter of seconds.
Jack is a beast. Last year, he was laughable to me, but he actually has grown a bit. Way to hit the last shot.
Felton was awesome in the last ten or so minutes. So was May...except for the free throw. But he still went 80%.
Did McCants' father look like he just came back to reap the benefits of his son's success? Or was it just me?
Anyways, just got back from Daytona. Congrats Pack, Devils, and Terps. Tech wins it, though.

Yesterday was not a good day for Carolina fans for different reasons. The first reason is the obvious way they lost. The other reason is Felton, May and McCants played like NBA ballers against NBA type competition (ie Muhammad, Moore, and NBA sized 7 footer Schenscher) J-wad and Melvin? Did they play yesterday? J-wad was busy missing 4 point blank tap ins. I think he is still trying to tap it in. lol Anyway there were three NBA general managers on hand and they had to like what they saw from the big three. Dont be surprised if all three leave for the NBA. If that happens ABCer everywhere will have their prayers answered with many more ABC circle jerks to come. You can thank Carolina for doing its part to keep this website alive and well. lol At this point Im hoping Carolina will just lose in the first round next weekend and put me out of my misery. lol They might win one maybe two games in the tourney. We'll see.

McCants' dad said that McCants is coming back. I do doubt that, though. He's played too damn well.
If May's smart, he'll stay. He hasn't been close to consistent enough to think about leaving.
Felton? Hmm. 50/50.
TampaBayHeel
Mar 13 2004, 08:47 AM
Well after thinking about it further I could see McCants being the only one to leave. Im not buying the whole "McCants dad said he's staying". Ive heard parents and players say these things before and still go pro. May plays too soft and would get eaten alive in the NBA. You're also right in that he hasnt shown enough consistency. Ive got a gut feeling that Felton might stay just because of the type of person he is but we'll see. Who knows though? The worst case scenario is May is the only one who stays. Wait I forgot to mention Jawad.....nevermind. lol Ill still be a Carolina fan if all three leave and our recruits reconsider and go elsewhere. Id still cheer Carolina if it was all walk ons. Its one thing to pull for a team during the good times and another to stick with them through the bad times. Lately its been mostly bad times or good times if you're an ABCer. At least we swept nc state. haha

I just wish we had a deeper bench. With Noel's inconsistency and Manuel's foul trouble, along with Scott's recent sucking and Jawad's complete sucking, it's been pretty dim. Three people can't do the job alone.

McCants may leave, but I don't think it's as likely as people think. May and Felton aren't going anywhere. As for Williams, he may be riding the pine next year if he keeps playing like this.
Why doesn't he ever go up hard and dunk the ball? He's always trying to bank it in on a layup and gets blocked. I'll never understand that.
TampaBayHeel
Mar 13 2004, 09:43 AM
AH our team is soft with the exception of Manuel. Manuel takes it strong to the hoop every single time he drives. Too often guys like Williams and Scott try to lay it up or bank it in. You're right about Williams ridin the pine. Ive seen clips of Marvin Williams and he flat out attacks the basket. He also has a nice touch from 3 point land. JR Smith, recent qualifier, is a Vince Carter type guy from what Ive heard. Hopefully these guys have a tougher mentality.

Weepy=D'oh! There is no difference in having Roy "choke" Williams coaching the Holes and having his self-proclaimed "son" and protégée Matt D'oh!erty coaching. Roy is having the exact same problems Matt had and is handling things just as poorly. Weepy is now in a real league, with other real teams, and several better coaches. Weepy has even had the benefit of having Sean "Puffy" May in the line-up all season and only managed to go two games better than D'oh! did without him. Like every ABC'er has said all along Holes, the joy ride is over at Chapa Hell.
LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if this season will finally be the reality check that gives the Holes a long overdue clue and the rest of us won't have to hear all summer how damn good the Holes are going to be next season? Unlikely... These are Holes we're talking about.

as a basketball fan, the unc/gt game was fun to watch. as an abcer, it was even better. roy is classless and i will never pull for "him". he doesn't win or lose gracefully. at least doh would take a beating like a man.
jwad will never play in the pros. i.e. Casey Sanders. they remind me of each other.
may will never be a factor in the pros. if you can't run, you can't play in the pros. (exeption - Shaq)
felton will never be a factor in the pros. if you can't shoot, i don't care how good you can dribble.
mccan't will never be a factor in the pros. if you continue to pout when you're playing bad, the coach won't put up with you.
and lastly. why do people like crazy say the other team wanted it more. can this be true? do kids play their hearts out because they don't want it as much as the other team. if unc didn't want it, they wouldn't have made a come back.
both teams want it equally. it's just the better team that day always wins.

I couldn't disagree more. May is soft inside, but you have to remember he's playing out of position. I would think his game is suited well for the 4 spot in the pros (ala Boozer). He's got a better game facing the basket than Boozer did at this point in his career, and he's a very good rebounder in a conference full of good big men.
felton=payton IMO. Both are quick as all get out, can penetrate and dish or take it to the rim, and look to pass first. felton does need to improve his outside game and defense, but GP wasn't much of a shooter in his early days IIRC.
Not sure about mccants. He can fill the basket up, but he's a tweener and would have trouble defending SGs in the league like Kobe, VC, T-Mac, Iverson, etc...

I disagree. There are several games that UNC should have lost because the other team was better that day. The second State game comes to mind. And then the opposite, like the OT loss to Duke and the loss to UVA. Sometimes luck just factors in somewhere, and the better team just happens to lose.

True, he gets good position. But he's a horrible defender. Even on Jack's game-winner, he should have thrown a hand up to help out. He was right there but backed off for position (and he had good position for a rebound). I've seen him do this many times. Maybe it's because he's too slow to get over and help.

yes luck is a very important issue in alot of these acc games.. most of the acc teams are pretty equal and the pure emotion from playing each other is an "X" factor...
