Bailey, N.C. — A Nash County deputy and father of a North carolina football star lost his job Thursday after he was arrested on drug charges. George Thomas Kurney, 50, of N.C. Highway 581 in Bailey, is the father of Julius Peppers, who starred on the basketball and football teams at the University of North carolina before going pro with the carolina Panthers.

He was arrested Wedesday along with Donald Earl Bullock, 46, of Sims School Road in Sims, on charges of possession of cocaine.

The Nash County Sheriff's Office, Tarboro and Wilson police departments and the State Bureau of Investigation collaborated on the investigation. Both men were being held Thursday in the Wilson County Jail.

Really is this all you have to report on, lets dig up some more dirt WRAl..... geez turning into tabloids. News must be getting slow

Yeah I know, "human interest" story. But what about some journalistic discretion here? Why embarrass Mr. Kurney and his high profile son further when Julius wasn't involved? So now the story has broken...and so has WRAL's editorial judgment process.

So unnecessary, WRAL. Get a grip. You blew this one.

Shame on you, WRAL! Has it ever crossed your mind to cover something positive that a player's family does? I doubt it! I thought that you were better than what you're "reporting" today. Must be trying to get the scoop before the grocery store gossip mags do!

SENSATIONALISM at it's best.

and you put it under "sports," what does this have to do with Peppers sports career? who decided to put this up?

Story seems a little tabloid-y doesnt it, WRAL?

Why did you wral have to put the boys name with his Father's? He cannot help what his Dad has done...

what does Peppers have to do with this?

sooooooo....u had nothing else to report...news must really be slow

AND?! uggg!! so WHAT?????

Boo-freakin'-hoo. We all know what the headline would be had this dirtbag been the father of a Duke or State player. Heck , unc-CHeat got off easy. The headline said that he was an " NFL Stars' dad NOT an ex-uncLV'er.
