why he felt the need to announce it is beyond me, but he did.

here's a clue for ya, wayne, when you clang every clutch shot you take, people really don't expect you to be jumping to "da league" anytime soon

I sort of put this on par with Rick Barnes "withdrawing" his name from the Kentucky Job Search.

"Hey guys, I just wanted you know I'm not interested in the job."
"Thanks, Rick, but...we weren't talking to you."
"I know, it's just...I'm not interested, is the thing."
Lee Corso
Has QT announced yet?
wopacker1980
Ellington wants to come back so he can get another piece of Duke and win a NC!
SchoolZone
Ellington didn't announce anything, you damn idiot. A reporter called and asked his Dad and he said Ellington was returning to UNC. Great thread. laugh.gif

According to abcer/moodookie logik, Rick turned down the KY job and Ellington turned down the NBA.

I just want to announce that for the God-knows-what-night-in-a-row I have not had sex with Monica Belluci and Jenny McCarthy.

(Simultaneously)

Just because ya know, it could always happen.
Lee Corso
I would like to announce that I am retaining amateur status and will not play on the PGA tour this year.

That's fine. But why does Robbi Pickeral (unc homer) feel the need to report it in the N&O???
It IS a RALEIGH newspaper.
SchoolZone
There are many reasons but I don't expect you to buy any of them since you're perfectly happy wearing that tin-foil hat of yours.

Wayne Ellington was the #1 rated SG in his high school class and many predicted that if not for the age limit, he would have been drated out of high school. If you've been paying attention to dook of late, then you'd know that highly regarded high school players sometimes will leave for the NBA if they aren't a lottery pick or even if they aren't even going to be drafted at all.

So given these reasons, the question was a valid one and it was answered by Wayne's father. Nowhere did Wayne announce any-fekkin-thing.

I'd like to see a link where Wayne Ellington announced this. I can't seem to find one anywhere.
pertsix
Fathers can be spokesmen, too.

I thought there wasn't a link...Do you have any proof that Wayne's "spokesman" contacted the press to release this information to the public? Are there any quotes from Wayne at all? Is it possible that Wayne is rolling his eyes right now that this hit the wire like it did? This shocked less people than the news of Durant turning pro. Don't be such an idiot. "Fathers can be spokesmen too" does not in any way prove that Wayne was trying to get media attention like you clowns are charging. Just be glad this news is about Wayne Ellington and not about another dooke rape or a sid-related law infraction.

I think the father was contacted to get some info and the kid's dad answered a question that some fool reporter already knew the answer to just like everybody else.

UNC freshman forward Brandan Wright, freshman point guard Ty Lawson and sophomore forward Tyler Hansbrough have not yet announced if they will return for the 2007-08 season.

Coach Roy Williams had said he expected to learn of their decisions by early this week.

I thought one of these guys was "100% sure he's coming back"?

FWIW if any player from any school is a sure fire first round pick they'd be a fool to stick around and risk a Sean Livingston-type injury. "A bird in the hand" is sage advice. Now if they're going to school to be a doctor or lawyer that's another matter but nearly all these kids go to school with visions of the NBA.

Exactly. We can thank our homer friend Pickeral for that. It was non-news about unc that somehow made it into the fishwrap.
carolinarolls
Rumors:

Roy supposedly met with sources in Charlotte today. Since banquet is tonight, decisions coming soon.

Fact:

No way we get into a position we havn't been in before. The post 05 National championship departures were by far the most extreme of any shool in history at the time.

--I wonder how much slack the ABCers will give Florida this upcoming season?

lots of pressure on local sports writers to get info on the team who should have gone to final four and happens to be the most popular in NC and top 5 in popularity as far as the country goes. Mistakes will be made. Everybody wants to break the Wright story right now. Everybody wants to see what UNC is returning. Comes with territory of being one of the best.

Rolls I think Williams coaching job after all the departures was the best he's ever done. I was truly amazed UNC did as well as they did. I also think Roy coaches better when he's the hunter as opposed to being the hunted. In the latter situation it's my opinion that instead of coaching to win he coaches not to lose and it comes back to bite him on occasion with this year being a prime example.

A man who has been berated all season for running upthe score might be struggling with the right way sometimes instead of just turning the dogs loose and not giving a shit about what the critics have said all season. I don't think that is what lost it for him, but he has mad some strange decisions regarding leads that he did not make in 05.
