Experience Score - a weighted average of minutes played and class; with a weight of 4 for senior, 3 for junior, etc...
The average experience score for an ACC team from 1982-2006 is 2.61.
Ten Youngest Teams in ACC Since 1982:
Team.................Experience Score...........Winn%
Clemson 1996............1.48.......................0.621
UNC 2003.................1.53.......................0.543
Maryland 1994...........1.64.......................0.600
WFU 1999.................1.73.......................0.548
Maryland 1987...........1.79.......................0.346
dook 2007.................1.79.......................0.733
Georiga Tech 2003.....1.82........................0.516
dook 1983.................1.87.......................0.393
Georiga Tech 1984......1.89.......................0.621
UNC 2007..................1.91.......................0.828
Maryland 2000............1.93.......................0.714
** UNC 2007 is pretty clearly the best team among the 10 youngest ACC teams since 1982. The next best (Maryland 2000) would go to the Final Four the following year, and win the championship two years later. Many other teams on the list also improved dramatically in the following years (e.g., UNC 2003, Maryland 1994, GT 2003, dook 1983).
Ten Youngest ACC Teams Since 1982 with a Winning % of Greater than 0.800:
Team.................Experience Score...........Winn%
UNC 2007................1.91........................0.828
WFU 2003...............2.03........................0.806
dook 2000...............2.21........................0.853
dook 1991...............2.31........................0.821
Virginia 1982............2.35........................0.882
UNC 1997................2.39........................0.800
dook 2004................2.41.......................0.838
dook 1998................2.41.......................0.889
dook 1999................2.43.......................0.949
UNC 1982.................2.48.......................0.941
** Of the 10 youngest teams that have won at least 80% of its games, only 2003 Wake Forest is remotely close (i.e., within 15%) to being as young as UNC 2007 (and they had Howard as a senior leader in place of Terry).
** For a team to be this young and this good is really, really unprecedented. It's a pretty rare combination that most of our fans aren't enjoying due to the ridiculously overinflated expectations.
Here are the 2007 numbers (from most oldest to youngest):
Virginia Tech....3.08
Maryland.........2.94
Florida State.....2.81
Boston College..2.77
Virginia............2.75
Clemson...........2.51
Miami..............2.33
NCSU..............2.23
Georgia Tech....2.08
Wake Forest.....1.96
UNC.................1.91
dook................1.79
Avg.................2.43
** This is a young year for the ACC in general-- it's actually the 5th youngest that the league has been since 1982 (trailing 2003 (2.36), 1999 (2.38), 2000 (2.38), and 1983 (2.41)).

Does Hansbro count as a 4 or a 2?

unx can thank their lucky stars that the nba raised their entrance age, 'cause if they hadn't the holes might still be as young but their winning % damn-sure wouldn't be what it currently is.
Btw, it hasn't gone unnoticed either that your little survey attributes "youth" to the player's grade level (fr,so,jr,sr) as opposed to their actual age.

But if they had done minutes played, the only real experience factor that matters in my opinion, it would be even MORE lopsided.

That is because AGE doesn't matter, you fekkin' dork...EXPERIENCE does. For instance, Brandon Costner would be a 1 even though he's a R-Fr.

It says in the first sentence that it is weighed by minutes played. Not sure how.

rh00, many many thanks for the exhaustive research it must have taken to put all that together!
Its hard for me to imagine someone as shallow as you doing all that but dang.
(of course if it came from some hole blog site to justify your teams falling apart and you just copy-n-pasted it then......)

I guess what you're frineds at IC are saying is "tock tock wait 'til next year."
Ironic, when Duke was getting all the attention last year you were saying the same about this year!lol
I think roywondrboy is turning into don deano, recruits well but has mechanical players and a boneheaded devotion to some system.

BCE.
That'd belong to dook, who had the 2x NPOY and 2x NDPOY and couldn't make it past the sweet sixteen.
Or to 2007-2008 dook, who, if McSob stays and Patterson comes, will have 9 (10 if that King scrub makes it) McD's AAs and will make another early exit.

Run your mouth while you can moped, you'll be making an early exit out of here on Sunday.

Aren't these the two guys that Hole Nation said sucked, couldn't create their own shot, and couldn't carry Handjob's jock?
Now it appears upon further reflection they were All World.

Make up your mind

What part of weighted average do you not understand? This is pretty simple. It is telling you that the majority of minutes played by UNC this season is distributed among its freshmen and sophomores who have experience coefficients of 1 or 2. And of the last 25 years, this UNC team has the highest winning % amongst other inexperienced ACC teams.
While the most talented, UNC and dook are the least experienced teams in the ACC this year. Talent alone, even coupled with great coaching, is not a replacement for experience.

So is this an excuse to explain away the losses and diminished expectations or an excuse to hang a banner?
