QUOTE Jason Whitlock @WhitlockJason Does Tyler Hansbrough belong in the NBA? I'm serious. Drives me f---ing crazy. LINK QUOTE Pat Forde @YahooForde Hansbrough finally being called for all the walks he got away with @ unc. Still remember Duke student chant: "Tyler travels EV-REE time!" LINK QUOTE Gregg Doyel @GreggDoyelCBS In college, Hansbrough was known for "effort." In the NBA it looks like "spasms." LINK |

TH ran Josh McSoberts out of town. Which will probably be the ONE accomplishment he'll be able to hang his hat on when he eventually ( though no less surely ) washes outta the league. |

BTW , didn't Josh simply leave as a free agent? That's not exactly the same as what was suggested. Plus , hansjob was picked at 13. Josh? 37th. SHOULDN'T hansjob be the better player? Like I alluded to earlier , sending Josh packing ( if , indeed , that's what happened ) , is a dubious "achievement"....at best.

Yep, Ratface turned the top recruit into a second rounder and McSoberts is still underachieving.

Yep, Ratface turned the top recruit into a second rounder and McSoberts is still underachieving. Josh at 37. Hansjob a lottery pick. Roy MUST be responsible for the underachieving in the league , right? No shortage of evidence to back up that claim either. Roy has a nice little legacy of holding on to every last second of his big man recruits' collegiate eligibility before ( finally! ) allowing them to undistinguish themselves at the next level. Shall we....? QUOTE - Tyler Hansbrough: Top 3 player in the class of 2005. Four-year starter at unc. In the NBA - 9.3 ppg, 4.4 rpg on 40.5% FG shooting. - Marvin Williams: Top 10 player in the class of 2004. One-and-done at unc. In the NBA - 10.2 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 43.2% FG shooting. - Brandan Wright: Top 3 player in the class of 2006. One-and-done at unc. In the NBA - 6.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 61.8% FG shooting. Career averages boosted , somewhat , due to his finding something of a "niche" in Dallas. Prior , the stats were even worse. Awful. - Ed Davis: Top 10 player in the class of 2008. Two years at unc. In the NBA - 6.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 51.3% FG shooting (all numbers declined in his second year in the league). - Sean May: Top 10 player in the class of 2002. Three years at unc. No longer in the league. - Deon Thompson: #43 ranked player in the class of 2006. Started multiple years at unc. Never played in NBA. - Jawad Williams: #11 ranked player in the class of 2001. Started multiple years at unc. NBA bench warmer for a couple of years. No longer in league. So that's SIX top 15 post players that Roy has coached through the end of their college career, including two top 3 players and three other top 10 players. Of those six top-ranked players, only four are even in the league, and of those four, not one averaged even 11 ppg or 7 rpg this season. Their combined averages are 8.3 ppg and 5.0 rpg... from four top 10 players in their class. Keep in mind this list doesn't include his legacy of shetty big men foistered upon the league while he was at KU. Only so much bandwidth here. Back to hansjob and some other apt quotes... QUOTE He's a 6'8" "power" guy with nothing but an inside game, if you can call it that. One other career stat you omitted: Career FG Pct. 42.5%. Comparatively, Wayne Ellington shoots 41.5% for his career, but at least his shots come from outside of the paint. This season hansbrough got on a "hot streak" near the end just to get his shooting above 40%. The tweet questioning whether he's an NBA player is completely reasonable. QUOTE Do you honestly believe that Hansbrough would be getting PT on the Lakers? Obviously not over Gasol or Bynum and the way Mike Brown has shortened his bench in the playoffs, I doubt he'd be playing over Hill either. He's a big man who shoots 42% and averages under 5 rebounds a game, I doubt he'll have many free agent opportunities outside of Indiana. QUOTE You could likely count on one hand the number of power players in the league who saw any significant PT in the league and shot worse from the field than Hansbrough did. QUOTE The dude was well over .500 shooting for his career in college. In the NBA, he's never shot better than .465 and is registering a whopping .405 FG% this season, which, for a guy who gets the vast majority of his offense within 20 feet of the hoop, is pretty bad. His career rebounding average is 4.8, and his career blocks average is 0.2. Those aren't "decent" stats for a lottery pick post player. QUOTE We don't know why the Pacers kept Hansbrough and traded McRoberts but maybe it had to do with money as McRoberts left as a FA and Hansbrough was still under contract. Either way, it is really difficult to defend Hansbrough as being a good or even decent NBA player. His career FG% is under 43% which is beyond terrible for a PF. His 43% would be considered poor if he was a SG. This year, Hansbrough is shooting under 41% from the field. Tyler is just not big enough, skilled enough or athletic enough to get clean shots off against bigger and more athletic players. He still gets to free throw line and does play very hard, but other than that he is well below average for his position at essentially ever other aspect of basketball. He may find it difficult to get a second contract for anything more than the minimum once his rookie deal expires as thus far, he has been a pretty big disappointment. QUOTE McRoberts started 51 games for the Pacers last year. Hansbrough started 29. So explain to me how McRoberts starting over Hansbrough for most of the season, then signing as a free-agent with the Lakers equates to losing the battle, exactly ![]() |

Shelden Williams (#3 PF in his class) Top 5 draft pick for some reason, 6th NBA season and playing for SEVENTH TEAM, career 4.5 pt 4.3 reb Shavlik Randolph (#6 PF in his class) - UNDRAFTED, 5 NBA seasons, if you can call them that - played more than 13 games in a season ONCE. Career 2.4 pts 2.4 reb Josh McRoberts (#1 PLAYER in his class) second round pick, 5 NBA seasons, career 4.6 pt, 3.7 reb Lance Thomas (#4 PF in his class) UNDRAFTED, 15 NBA games in 2 seasons. 4.0 pts, 3.0 reb Brian Zoubeck (#7 C in his class) UNDRAFTED, ZERO NBA games Kyle Singler (I know...a SF, but the #1 SF in his class) - Second round pick, ZERO NBA games Funny how TH's 9.3/4.4 is better than any season posted by any of the guys listed above. |

Kyle Singler (I know...a SF, but the #1 SF in his class) - Second round pick, ZERO NBA games By choice, not by way of sucking. But you knew that well ahead of time. Likewise, Zoubek was never as highly touted as the list of heel players named. But carry on being disingenuous. This post has been edited by dkst0426: May 22 2012, 07:21 PM |
