Wow. The tarhole nation thought this one was a done deal. Dollars to doughnuts , Roy did too. Probably used Oriakhi's imminent transfer to unx , in part , as part of his pitch to bring McAdoo back. A selfish move that , as we all know , cost JMM millions. But I digress. Roy told McAdoo that Oriakhi's presence would guarantee that the sophomore would have help in the paint. JMM still has time. That is , he may yet go to the league. As is , due to Roy's self-centered coercion , the kid is now the number one "go to" option down low...something he has zero collegiate experience at. McAdoo should re-think. What's the cut-off? The 29th?

Ratface whiffed first.

Ratface and staff have also strong armed Plumlee into giving up MILLIONS due to "loyalty to the program" after "multiple meetings" prior to the deadline.

If Amile Jefferson commits to State, you're both going to be saying "wtf". Personally I don't think it's gonna happen, but then again, I didn't think State would pull three McD AA's in their first year of "rebuilding".

Oh and FEK unc.

Hmmmm. Mason announces his return to Duke and , coincidentally , Oriakhi removes the Devils from his list. Hinky. Reckon one thing has something to do with the other? Nahhh. No way. Never. rolleyes.gif The tarhole nation really IS pathetic. I'm guessing they derive some sense of perverse , sour grape-like satisfaction from spinning this brutal rebuffment into a "Duke whiffed first" tale. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif Dauggie said it. Those unx fuks treated this like all of the holes' recruitments. They assume the kid is theirs , Roy's "all in" and they start penciling the poor bastige into their line-up. I reckon it'll be a cold day in Hades when those arrogant fux concede that not every kid is enamored of Roy and his web of self-centered , self-serving bs. Good call , Alex. Best of luck to ya. You made the right choice. God speed.

Yeah I'm sure Plumlee called up Oriaki on the 26th and told him he was staying so Oriaki quickly eliminated dook.

You'll have to excuse 3 #'s , Lee. "Putting feelers out" ( unlike at other schools! ) is rarely , if ever , done at unx. Not surprising that he was unfamiliar with the process. I nstitutional C ontrol....

Oriahki Chooses Missouri

lol...what is the kid thinking?

I hope Roy gave him his best shot. I have my doubts.

This is my guess as well. I doubt Roy gave 100% in this "recruitment."

He is not good enough for tar heels

Also, it shows how jaded I am. Once UK was out of the running, I just assumed it would be us. I laughed at the thought of Missou.

"Jaded?!" How 'bout "arrogant?" How 'bout "arrogant fuktard?" Much better descriptions.

My guess is Roy heard something in his initial contact that he didn't like and lost interest. The fact that UK's, Mizzou's and Xavier's coaches have been really involved the last week while uncs have not tells me Roy didn't see him as a priority.

Followed closley by ( same poster ...)

The fit was too perfect from a basketball perspective.

Because Frank Haith, while a nice guy, is no Roy Williams. Has he ever even sniffed a Sweet 16? AO wanted a chance to contend - this Mizzou team lost a lot and will be hard pressed to make the Final Four. With him at Chapel Hill we could have easily been in the final 16, maybe Final 4.

he may not be ready for the limelight cause he would be Prime time NAtional TV here

He willbe the ONLY big man for mizzou. Makes sense....mcadoo would overshadow him. He would have to split time with 4 other bigs at unc

Missou is going to suck hard next year. AO chose to be the MAN on a crappy team rather than a contributor on carolina

It is a bit strange that Roy didn't even get him down for a visit. I can't help but wonder if his dad's comments about Calhoun didn't sour Roy on him. I know it bugged me, so it probably more than bugged him

I think it was this or something in the conversation Roy had with them. At any rate, I think those on here blasting the kid for "choosing" Mizzou are off base. He may not have had unc as an option.

Yeah , that's the ticket. Roy didn't want 'im.

He may have overplayed his hand here

Which tells you Oriahki was never considering Duke or unc. I think people should realize that AO wanted certain schools and used others to weed out the choices. unc was never a real choice. If he really had interest he would of been down to Chapel Hill ASAP, trying to gauge the team, who is returning and get a feel for the University. He only mentioned unc offhand a couple of times with Duke. Most of the speculation was just that guesses and very little solid intel. Was it a good decision? Off course not, but he 21 and the idea of playing with your friends outshines winning in his mind. If the Heels go to the final 4, trust me, Oriahki will notice.

I think Alex's father turned Roy off, especially after dealing with Larry Drew II's mother to the extent to which he did. Alex's father seems very, very involved in his son's experience so much so that he questioned publicly Calhoun's playcalling, substitution patters, and other matters. I don't think Roy wanted a repeat performance. Sometimes it's best to miss out on things like that. While he could've bolstered our front court with size and strength, his impact in the locker room could've been cancerous.

unc wasn't considering him past initial contact.

Didn't ask before, but was wondering why a lot if people salivated over him. I did not pay attention to uconn at all this year so I haven't seen him play. But his jr stats weren't great, so why were fans really pushing for him. I don't think Roy had the same fervor as fans. I'm assuming Roy wanted our bigs to get experience rather than recruit a 7ppg guy for one year. The 7ppg may not tell the whole story.

I doubt Roy gave 100% in this "recruitment." It sucks as we could have been a great team with Oriahki.

I never thought he was good and Roy was probably being diplomatic and backed off quietly.

thought academics was important to him, GUESS NOT!

Yeah, I'm ok with it. I thought we'd help him more than he'd help us tho.

As I've stated in some of my previous posts, I don't think Roy gives recruits the "full Roy treatment" that he does when he has 3-4-5 schollys in his pocket

I have no clue what he was thinking unless of course there was limited interest from Roy as far as unc goes.

Deserves its own box....

QUOTE
One of the outstanding things about Roy is, not only does he recruit really well, but he has a way of getting elite players to stick around.

5-star players from 2009 championship team: Tyler Hansbrough (played 4 years), Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington (played 3 years), Tyler Zeller (played 4 years), Ed Davis (played 2 years).

John Henson was a 5-star who played 3 years for us; Harrison Barnes played two years

Roy didn't go 'all in' on this one...

Roy never met with them either at unc or in their home. That's a pretty good indication to me that we weren't that interested after initial contact

Roy was the only coach out of the four finalists not to meet with the Oriakhis in person. You do the math. I'm sure Roy had his reasons, but we've all seen Roy "all in" and that wasn't it.

I know for a fact heels staff did not want him, more so the fans

I dont think coach Williams really wanted this kid...

I wanted Alex...coach, for good reasons did not (apparently)....

As for unc's interest, it really looks unlikely Roy prioritized this guy. Might be a reason he immediately went to Mizzou. One thing I learned on premium is that Roy does NOT play games. What we know as fans as to the inner workings of the handling of each individual recruit is diddly. I had a really good feeling Oriakhi would come to unc based on the opening at center and Oriakhi's comments but it looks like Roy didn't go "all in" on him for some reason (*there were red flags about Oriakhi's disposition and his father's public criticism of Calhoun).

A modicum of self-realization...
QUOTE
Maybe he caught a whiff of the sanctimony, whining, and enormous sense of entitlement of many of our fans and decided he'd just rather not
