Duke's Roll Continues, Murphy Jumps On Board

QUOTE
Mike Kryzewski and Duke have been on quite a roll over the past two years.

Last year the Blue Devils won their fourth national championship. Mid-way through this season they ranked among the top 5 in the polls and have just two losses on the season.

Off the court their recruiting has been nothing short of tremendous. Their 2011 recruiting class is ranked in the top three and they have signed the nation’s top guard prospect in Austin Rivers.

On Monday their momentum continued.

Alex Murphy, a top 15 prospect out of Southborough (Mass.) St. Mark’s, gave Kryzewski and his staff a verbal commitment, formally ending his recruiting process.

"I decided with my family yesterday and I called a bunch of coaches and I called coach K," Murphy told Scout.com. "I'm going to Duke."

QUOTE
Murphy, the younger brother of Florida sophomore Erik, also entertained scholarship offers from the Florida, unc, Boston College, Arizona, Kansas and West Virginia.

QUOTE
Ranked No. 2 at the small forward position and as a five-star prospect, Murphy, a 6-foot-8, 210-pounder, is a versatile prospect with an impressive ball skills and athletic ability.

Murphy, the No. 11 overall recruit in the 2012 class, is Duke’s first verbal commitment for the 2012 class.

I nstitutional C ontrol , surprisingly , hasn't trashed the kid too much beyond the usual "he's a white boy so he goes to Duke" comments. Not terribly original but about what I'd expect. Anyway , a couple of the posts are worthy of posting here.....

YESS!

New Dunleavy-Singler for dook

Does anyone over there actually THINK before they post? First of all , Mike and Kyle ( other than being white guys from the Pacific Northwest ) have something else in common. They both have national titles. National titles that the Blue Devils wouldn't have without 'em. And THIS ^^^ douche-nozzle is HAPPY for Duke. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Re: Alex Murphy to dook
Dunleavy won an NC at dook but only as the fourth best player on the team. Singler won an NC in a really down year as the third best player on the team (and really the fourth most valuable when you include Zoobriks rebounding).

If Murphy is like those guys, I'm not too worried. He'll be good but not game-changing. Maybe he's better than those guys. I have no idea not having seen him play
.

THIS^^^ dork acknowledges their titles but "qualifies" their contributions. laugh.gif While saying that Mike was ONLY rolleyes.gif the " 4th best player on that team " may be true it's still woefully inaccurate. He was damn good as that 4th player and his 3 treys broke that game open for Duke. Also , like the other 3 , he's having a successful NBA career. ( I'm including JWill. Sans injury , he would've been a very good pro. ) Fuk it , Duhon was also on that team and he's had some solid years in the league. The point is , that team was loaded and "4th best" would've been first or second best at most schools. The Singler comments? Wow. Just. Wow. "Down year?" For who? unx? Yep. Duke? Nope. Such a stupid observation that I'm ashamed of myself for even quoting it. "Third best " no wait " 4th best counting Zoubeck?!?! " Scheyer was a good player who played great , Nolan did well and Brian and Lance stepped up but Singler was the BEST player on that team. No question. And the holes still kill me with their revisionist history about Brian and Lance. Punch lines all 4 years to the tar hole nation but as soon as they left , one would think Duke lost Parrish and McHale. " NOT game-changing?!?!" Mentioned it earlier. Dun's 3 treys broke open the UA game. They looked pretty "game-changing" from my vantage point but , hey , that's just me. Last , but not least , we get the truth....

40 pts, 18 rebounds, 7 assists in the Final Four. Voted MOP. Singler was a scrub.

Murphy comin' in early...?
QUOTE
It's no secret how strong the mutual admiration is between the Blue Devils coaching staff and Class of 2012 forward Alex Murphy, a top 25 prospect who delivered his verbal commitment to Mike Krzyzewski on Feb. 6. But here's the big surprise: Murphy and Duke are so eager to join forces that they don't want to wait until 2012.

QUOTE
Behind the scenes, the activity has escalated with Murphy and his family trying to explore with Duke, the NCAA and his current high school (St. Mark's in Southborough, Mass.) a potential move that would bring Murphy to Durham this summer as a part of the Class of 2011.

Yep.

Alex Murphy now part of 2011 class
QUOTE
Alex Murphy, an elite small forward from South Kingstown, R.I., decided Tuesday to reclassify into the Class of 2011 and enroll at Duke a year early.

The 6-foot-8, 215-pounder committed to the Blue Devils' 2012 class in February but never ruled out the possibility of being part of Duke's 2011 class.

"It was a very difficult decision but in the end I just thought this was the best thing for my future," Murphy said. "It's a great opportunity."

Guess this means Daniels isn't coming to Durham now?

By design.

He didn't have to attend Oak Ridge to bring up his SAT or GPA.

He won't be a 23 yr old senior. You can bank on that.
