Sorry, not buying. Even if Roy wanted Drew off, why would he wait until his team was playing it's best ball, right before playing the best two teams in the conference? Why would he wait until Drew started playing really well? Makes no sense.
Probably, Drew played really well and wanted his job back because of it. Roy said no, and Drew took his ball and went home. Seems a lot more plausible to me. |

lol. don't make me paste the definition of "gullible"
no need, it'll all probably come out, because the whole thing is nonsensical. No one "quits" one month before tournament time when your team is - and you are - peaking. |

Dollars to doughnuts his dad had a lot to do with this. Pissed b/c it's plain to all his kid is at best a serviceable sub. Thought he actually played better coming off the bench. Would not be surprised at all if this is the case. Rachelix, what about him leaving makes sense for Roy? The team couldn't be running hotter as is right now, before playing their two biggest games of the season. |

My theory: Drew's dad is one of the ones Williams cited in a recent rant where he mentioned certain players and their families were more concerned with PT and stats as opposed to winning. Drew Sr kept on pressuring Roy about minutes and threatened to move his turnover prone kid to another school. Roy calls his bluff which would be one of the easiest things in the world to do. Watching a brick laying, turnover prone, no defense playing PG walk away wouldn't be hard. My theory is just that though
Wonder if there's anything else besides unhappiness about PT? Leaving now just doesn't make a lot of sense. It will be 2013 before he can play again |

Now we know why Roy was so hesitant to play Marshall from the get-go. He KNEW that Larry just needed the slightest provocation to bolt. He gave Drew as much pt as possible....or should I say "rope." Once it became obvious that Marshall was the better player , Roy could send Drew to the pine and neither Larry nor his father could complain. "The proof is in the pudding," right? Williams figured that Team Drew would accept II's subordinate role because , being basketball people themselves , even they could see that KM was the better player. Guess not. BTW , this isn't good news for unx. Most figured their season hinged on another injury to Zeller. THAT concern still exists but now they have only a single pg on the roster...a frosh , at that. And , no , he ain't John Wall. Nor is he Kyrie either. He's done pretty well but he had a net. That "net" is gone. God forbid he get injured. Another issue. Roy LIED to 'im LAST year. The kid wanted to leave THEN but Williams all but handed 'im the starting pg position to keep 'im at unx. Why not? Ol' Roy was hedging his bets. Williams couldn't count on a freshman pg without a second of college basketball under his belt to lead unx. Therefore , he placated II. Dollars to doughnuts , he ain't nearly as pizzed as his ol' man is.

A friend of mine has a different take on the Drew departure. He thinks Drew has been unhappy since last year. Also thinks that Roy was likely concerned that benching him would make LD II even less happy. Not only that he thinks Roy calculated that benching Drew would lead to a transfer and therefore Roy purposely waited until the second half of the season in order to make it harder for LD II to jump ship. If Roy did act along those lines, then he was acting in a reprehensible manner in that he was misleading LD II and essentially prolonging his misery at unc.
Saw Roy's presser and he's playing the "I was blindsided" card. Roy was also "blindsided" by the Wears' decision to transfer too, wasn't he? What does this say about how in tune Roy is with what is going on with his players and with their families? Does he care? Do they not trust him or think enough of him to let him in on what is happening, what they're thinking, what they're feeling about how their experience in Chapel Hill is going? Or is he just full of it, he knew this was coming, and he's just going with the "blindsided" thing for some sort of PR reasons? I don't know, but none of these possibilities say much for him. That's 3 transfers and one booted off the team in just a few months. The "Duke has a transfer problem" canard is certainly laughable by comparison |
