that Grantland piece on Barnes brings up another point about ol'Roy

for all the great players that have comne to unc, how many have really developed their game while there and gotten better?

I can think of a few guys that genuinely improved, but the list of hot shots that didn't really develop into more complete players is pretty damning

HOW MANY PLAYERS FROM THE 2010 DUKE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM NOW CURRENTLY PLAY IN THE NBA?

Two, and Singler will likely join LT and Smith next season.

What's your point?

marvin williams, raymond felton, david noel was a walk-on that got drafted when he wasn't even thought of prior, rashad mccants is a moron, but can still play well, tyler hansbrough, ty lawson, wayne ellington, danny green all non-1 and dones, improved their draft stock, won national championships.

brendan haywood has an NBA championship ring, and so does rasheed wallace. how many does duke have? (among active NBA players).

i leave out sean may (too fat), brandan wright (1nD), ed davis (1nD), and terry (rode draft stock, like noel, but was bust)

no, your point sucked.

roy has developed most of his 'great' players into NBA-ready players. and by 'great' i mean, NCAA champions.

how many teams have gone by under K where they didn't win a national championship, and gone bust in the NBA? a lot.

this team missed out on being probable/possible NCAA champions because the bus-driver to the whole team broke his wrist.

you see, it all comes back to the same point- ROY WILLIAMS ISN'T THAT GOOD OF A COACH

no, all the bench players played well. stilman white had 0 turnovers off of a buttload of assists. without marshall, kansas was the better team.

how many wins did Duke get this year in the post-season?

Roy's great players came in that way. He's never coached up anyone. Ever. Don't get me started.

how many teams have gone by under K where they didn't win a national championship, and gone bust in the NBA? a lot.

No one but NO ONE has more NBA busts than Roy. Please don't tell me ya wanna compare K's pros to Roy's. Can't beleive ya had the audacity to even touch on the subject. Roy's a "star-killer." Heck , I posted that link just the other day. Stick to defending that kangaroo court. You're outta yer league here. Roy's pros , by and large , suck azz. End of story.

this team missed out on being probable/possible NCAA champions because the bus-driver to the whole team broke his wrist.

Good Gawd , this is too damn easy. First of all , how many of those players listed are Roy's? laugh.gif Secondly , who cares about that stupid , pointless IC-driven argument about college performance as it pertains to NBA titles? unx'ers. That's it. Look , the worst teams draft first and no one does a better job of securing high draft spots for his guys than K. Point? Shetty teams don't win titles. Duh. laugh.gif Also , just because , say , Scott Williams rode someone's coat tails to a title means bupkiss. Finally , again , who the fuk cares? I could give 2 shets if a Duke player wins an NBA crown. It's what they do at DUKE that counts. Winning an NBA title is no reflection one way or the other on the school a guy played for. Thing is , Duke started matching/surpassing unx in producing quality pros so the tarhole nation has to continually "invent" categories to make them feel superior about themselves. What a joke. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

Uh, I'd say almost ALL of our big men got better. Lawson noticeably improved.

So he consistently improves big men, and guards tend to stay about the same as when they came in. he's like the exact opposite of K!

Sean May says WTF?

Handjob didn't "improve" being at unc four years. He was just as good as a frosh as he was as a senior imo

Harrisan Barnes = Rickey Price

I'd take K's present NBA talent over the group Roy has in the NBA right now. Not even close

Exactly. no coaching.

Again , correct. K's improve and move on. Roy's become Jacque Vaughn and Adonis Jordan. laugh.gif

Re: Henson, Barnes, Marshall, Mcadoo

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since the arrival of Roy Williams at unc:

unc top-5 recruits playing under Williams: 7
unc top-5 recruits becoming upperclassmen: 5 (6 if HB stays)
unc top-5 recruits NBA ROY: 0
unc top-5 recruits NBA All-star: 0
unc top-5 recruits still in NBA: 4 (Barnes/Henson will make it 6 at some point)

Duke top-5 recruits playing under K: 5
Duke top-5 recruits becoming upperclassmen: 1
Duke top-5 recruits NBA ROY: 1
Duke top-5 recruits NBA All-star: 1 (almost certainly 2 next year)
Duke top-5 recruits still in NBA: 3 (Singler/Rivers likely to make it 5 next year)

UK/UM top-5 recruits playing under Cal: 7
UK/UM top-5 recruits becoming upperclassmen: 0
UK/UM top-5 recruits NBA ROY: 3 (Davis likely will be 4)
UK/UM top-5 recruits NBA All-star: 1
UK/UM top-5 recruits still in NBA: 5 (MKG and Davis make it 7 soon)

Basically, if you are a HS superstar, and want to flounder around in college, unc is the place to be. And its not like you'll be 'developed'. In fact, you'll statistically be far less likely to succeed than your classmates that went elsewhere. Chapel Hill is a fun place, better enjoy yourself there.

Seriously, how Randle or Parker or any top recruit can look at stuff like this and still make that choice confounds me. Though I do suspect it played a role in the number of misses Roy has had recently. And the regression of Barnes will only stoke the fire
.

QUOTE
Harrison Barnes Needs Your Support

QUOTE
The new movement, “SupportHB”, is designed for students and fans to give comfort and support to sophomore Harrison Barnes in the wake of his decision to forfeit his final two years of eligibility to pursue a career in the NBA. Why? Because he thinks you’re mad at him.

QUOTE
Some quick research traced the origin of the campaign back to two Twitter accounts, uncovering this exchange that kicked off the flurry of tweets with the new hashtag:

From ‘@uncproblems_’, “basically, @uncBetch talked to HB and he thinks all the students hate him, and we want him to know we support him, like we did for Kendall”. The statement was then corroborated by ‘@uncBetch’ with the tweet, “his exact words were ‘everyone hates me’. Ahhhhhhh, this is great. #SupportHB.”

QUOTE
It’s unclear to me if this is a brilliantly orchestrated joke being played on North carolina fans, a ruse by the originators of the campaign to gain attention, or if Harrison Barnes is really that sensitive. It certainly does fit the profile when you consider that Barnes would call sportswriters who blanketed him with praise during his high school career to ask if they still thought he was a good player during a rough stretch of games in his Freshman season. His awareness of his brand and his legacy has been well documented during his two years in Chapel Hill, a legacy that’s been severely damaged by his inability to deliver the results that Tar Heel nation expected when Barnes committed to North carolina following the 2009 championship season.

QUOTE
At face value, it simply seems like Harrison Barnes feels left out. unc fans surely don’t hate Barnes. Hate requires an emotional connection, which is something he failed to develop during his two seasons as a Tar Heel, or at least not at the level that his teammates have. Besides, Barnes can handle hate. He can’t handle indifference, however. Unfortunately for him, barring a superstar-like performance in the NBA, there’s likely a lot of indifference in his future whenever he comes back to Chapel Hill. Barnes is already old news. What’s the deal with McAdoo? Has anyone heard any more about Oriakhi?
