As we all know,Roy (being the petty little betch that he is) used a portion of his book to grind an axe against a kid (Delvon Roe) who dared to either:

a) Refuse to committ during a visit to unx or...

b) Committ under duress then renege a few weeks later. Regardless,here's the tale....

Anyway, Blanton said he and Roe visited North carolina together once, then Roe went by himself on a visit for the unc-Duke game. Blanton said Williams wanted Roe to commit before the game to get the team hyped. Roe called Blanton. Blanton strictly forbid him from committing.
"I said, 'You're not down there to commit, you're there to watch a game,'" Blanton recalled. "I don't know if he was scared to say no because Roy was pressuring him or what. I don't know exactly what happened after that. He might have committed, Roy might be telling the truth. But he wasn't ready to commit and he shouldn't have been pressured like that.
"Delvon still loved Michigan State and a few weeks later, when he was home and he could think about the decision without someone in his face, he realized that's where he wanted to go."
Roe had a hard time summoning the courage to tell Williams, Blanton said. Blanton told him he had to make the call. He did, and Blanton said Williams started yelling on the other end.
"I don't know exactly the words he was saying, but he was upset," Blanton said of Williams. "He started going off on Delvon. I mean, Delvon's an 11th-grader, he's shook up. So I grabbed the phone and said, 'Let me tell you something, you never disrespect my son like that.'"

It seems that in recruiting, kids change their mind all the time. It's not often, though, that you see coaches calling them out publicly for it. Especially coaches who can go snag an Ed Davis five minutes later and basically get 99 percent of the players they want.

Wait a minute. There's different kinds of "pressure." Roy puts on the full court press. Hey,ain't like it doesn't get results but Geez Louise. Is it an unbearable admission to think that maybe,just maybe!, Roy's style of applying "pressure" can be too aggressive? Obnoxious and pushy,even? BTW,I think Roe did,in fact,commit. But Roy bullied the kid into it. Rather than realize that,Coach Bristle-Shucks held a grudge like the little betch that he is. The POS just HAD to show Delvon what happens when ya don't please "good ol' Roy."

I don't have to "buy" into anything. Roy wrote about it. That's a fact. Did he commit? Did he not? I'm not even arguing that. In fact,I already said that the kid probably reneged. That makes absolutely no difference though. Heck,the only thing that we're asked to "buy into" is whether or not Roy was pizzed and did he scream at a 17 year old like a raving lunatic...so much so that the poor youth had to put his dad on the phone to get Roy in line. You know as well as I do that ain't a tough sell.

This affair and roy's book were discussed at some length yesterday on ESPN Radio (Sirius).

Didn't get the commentator's name ...but the thrust of the issue was roy's lack of class and his use of the book to dis the kid.

Typical and not unexpected from roy.

In a side story that barely made headlines before North carolina's win over Michigan State on Tuesday, Roy Williams' fielded some questions about his recruitment of Spartans sophomore Delvon Roe.

I haven't read it, but Williams made some comments in his new book about how a recruit told him he was coming to unc, but then later decided to go to MSU. Williams said that the player "lied" to him. He doesn't name the player by name but it's obvious he's talking about Roe.

"I didn't say Delvon lied," Williams reiterated when asked about the comments Tuesday night. "Go back and read it, well but I don't mind saying it, he told me he was coming. Let's be honest. He told me he was coming, he didn't come.

"But understand one thing don't make a bigger story than it is, because I love the kid and still think he's a wonderful kid."

It was pretty funny to hear Roy change his mind about his response mid-response. It's almost like he said to himself, "Oh what the hell they know I was talking about Roe."

Before Roy talked about Roe in this audio he talked about how he nearly wanted to shoot Deon Thompson at one point in the game. Good thing Ol' Roy wasn't packing.

Your views on the merits of charity seem pretty inconsistent with your perspectives on redistribution of wealth. Do you feel it's compulsory for the rich to give back? If not, why do you care? Giving money is nice, but you're naive if you think K doesn't know there's good press for him in the deal.

Tough sh!t. Top level college sports are a business. In "March to Madness", K says he was unable to feel the same way about Baron Davis after Baron complained when K didn't call him (this is while duke was recruiting him) during the week K's mom died. Do you find it wrong that K painted Baron in a somewhat unsympathetic light? I don't. Top recruits live public lives from the time their fifteen years old. Don't want to risk bad press? Stay of the Great American Sports Machine. Otherwise, buck up and roll with the punches.
