Couple of late and meaningless TDs so unc fans can feel better about themselves.

I especially liked the part when Ryan Houston followed his fumbling exhibition by squirtin' a few.

"WE WERE ONE PLAY AWAY FROM WINNING THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!" QUOTE This article didn't mention the strange calls throughout the game. The "incomplete" pass at the 5 yd line with a minute before halftime. The "pass interference" when the ball was 10' over the receiver's head on 3rd and 10, and the quick review "non fumble" in Va. tech territory that the announcers seemed to think was pretty obvious as a fumble. unc didn't help themselves with the fumble inside the 5 yard line by Houston in the first half, and the back-up field goal kicker being horrible. I'd say that 3 point loss was more like a 10-14 pt win. Missed opportunities and some "strange" officiating. But this is what unc football has become, one big missed opportunity. LINK |

Charles Brown gets away with holding and interference on nearly every play.
I saw a unc player push past a ref after a play and make contact with a VT player who he was jawing at. Should have been 15yds but no flag. And the out of bounds catch at the 5 yd line???? Puleeeze, the unc receiver was WAY out of bounds and didn't maintain control. <--this is one of the biggest gripes by unc concerning the officiating. The fact that one ref called it complete was ASTOUNDING. |

LMAO!!! Awesome read!!! Just Awesome!!! QUOTE "unc was not going to be allowed to win this game" "I've never seen officiating this dishonest. The ACC should be ashamed." "Dexter Strickland's "charge" call thinks this one had a predetermined outcome." "*cough* AGENDA! *cough*" "you must have missed the 08 game against va tech if you've never seen officiating this bad before. good ole ron cherry both games. agree that the outcome of this one was decided before the kickoff." "I didn't watch much of this game, but of what I saw and heard (from Jones), wow ... just blatant "blown" calls, one after the other. Good effort by everyone toward the closing minutes. No way you were allowed to pull this one out." "exactly. 1st should have stood pat with the close view and told the second guy "we'll check the film." The original call should have stood subject to review, which confirmed the catch from any perspective they showed. One of several blatant homer calls." "On the bright side, if the ACC is so set on VT in the championship game, then they are probably arranging a dream match up of VT vs CU, each with one loss." "Ron Cherry has cost this program and this team TWO big losses. Tonight, the ACC should be ashamed. All the ACC has to do is listen to what the announcers were saying. VPI scored on the first or second play after the blotched and reviewed fumble play and we lost all momentum following that. (This followed a completely blown pass interference call.) [When was the pass to the 5 yard line called an 'incompletion"!!!!!!] The announcers said it was a catch, too. Shame on the ACC officials." "No ... Ron Cherry did not explicitly cause us to fumble, but he dang sure altered the flow of the game ... significantly ..." "does the ACC office issue statements on incorrect calls like the NFL does? if so, where do i find them?" "The VT pass was uncatchable but we were called for pass interference. The ref 2 feet from Highsmith ruled a catch which was overturned. Replay did not overturn it so if the ref's call who was 2 feet away had not been overruled on the field we would have had 1st and goal. The call on DJ was suspect. Gio appeared to be facemasked before the helmet to helmet which was not called. The blown pass interference call lead to a TD. The blown call on Highsmith cost us a great shot at a TD or a MUCH shorter FG. The questionable call on DJ cost us a chance to score. We had 7 penalties for 57 yards. VT had 2 for 25." "Ron Cherry should be Tarred and Feathered in "The Pit." He is one pathetic excuse for an official and a human being. How can someone be so obvious. I noticed twice on penalties how he looked at Beamer hard and intense to be sure VT wanted the penalty or decline same. Cherry and his crew should be ashamed of themselves and should be fired from the ACC. Come on Swofford, show us you have some backbone and exorcise those clowns from the league." "You know it was bad officiating when the announcers for ESPN are counting how many bad calls there were against unc." "the ACC is struggling for respect in football, and having two teams in the top ten is very helpful in that regard. an upset at home by one of those teams, especially to lowly unc, would be a disaster for the conference. it would cost the ACC a great deal of prestige and money as it anticipates a title game between two highly ranked teams. ron is "cherry" picked by the conference for games like this because he understands what will help the conference (a "company man") and he has always been comfortable affecting the outcome of a game making all the close calls go one way. (note that when another official lost sight of that agenda and made the correct call on the highsmith reception cherry immediately intervened to straighten him out). at uva if the hokies run into trouble, we'll again see close calls helping tech for the same reason." "I didn't notice any questionable calls...after the jokies went up 24-7." "5 key calls that went against unc that were quite obvious to onlookers and announcers played a big part in the outcome of the game. If you want to call it just bad officiating overall then there should be at least one call that benefited unc, there was no call that benefited the Tar Heels. VT was allowed to hold defensive linemen with impunity. On short yardage situations VT ran plays where the offside tackle pulled to be in position to push the running back from behind, when has it been legal to assist a runner by pushing him from behind? This Ron Cherry led officiating crew is the biggest embarrassment to the ACC and should not be allowed to officiate another college game. Cherry himself is a moron who makes up fictional excuses to justify the inept calls his crew makes. But I digress." "I do not have respect for a conference that does not play fair. If respect is what the ACC officials at the top want, they need good officials that are unbiased and calls even out over the game. How can you get respect when the results on the field are not representative of the play, but who they supposedly want to win?" "nobody has mentioned(at least that I saw) the 4th down qb sneak near midfield where their ol pulled with his hands the dl that had the qg wrapped up behind the line od scrimmage across the 1st down line. Should have been holding and 4th down and 12 instead of 1st down. Just pitiful calls and non-calls all night that cost us this game. Anybody that does not realize that is an idiot." My personal fav.... "This is yet another area where BD was making progress. He would post "analysis" of these types of officiating corruption on the internet and everyone could see up close what was going on...But when the a-holes controlling the faculty and administration are so opposed to football and thereby leading the institution to tacitly agree with the abuse, we won't see change. Winning at any cost is important to other schools, so why let unc win and get in the way? Once upon a time unc stood for winning with fair play and honor, an attitude BD was trying to foster, but now we're more concerned with preventing our "kids" from enduring competiton on the field so they can go back to their rooms and play Grand Theft Auto 85, World of Warcraft or whatever blow-em-up-then-bring-em-back video ......." "I didn't watch a lot of that sorry Cherry called game but I saw tons of holding and interference that wasn't called. It doesn't matter VT or GU will get killed in the BCS bowl" "How long does a coach get to accept/decline a penalty? Seemed like Cherry was giving VT an extra 30 second time out on multiple calls?" |

I listened to sports talk radio just to hear the whinning today!
....and I was NOT disappointed! On que the holes all called in saying "THE REFS ROBBED US!!!!!!!!" Just like the day before they were all calling in saying "Dean was STILL better than K because he recruited the 1st black, Charlie Scott, and inovated and revolutionized the entire college game!!!!!!" No wonder their players/professors/coaches/administrators/tutors have a hard time understanding what "cheating" is, they ALL seem to be deranged! ...that's what makes unx so easy to HATE! |

Oh yeah, talk radio was a hoot. unc fans complain about Cherry hosing them. unc's record WITH Cherry officiating in conference games is 4-4 since Butch's first year. That's better than their overall win pct since Butch arrived. Also, Cherry does a lot of tv games...which usually include strong opponents....like GTech and VT this year.
unc fans are just so accustomed to receiving ALL the calls (see the bowl game vs Tenn) that when a call or two SEEMS to go against them they simply cannot believe it. And after the TA call, which led to the ACC using instant replay and the "win" against Tenn, no unc fan EVER has the right to complain. |

IOW , the Hokie made an appropriate comment that illustrated unx hypocrisy. AND , as you saw , the holes had no decent rebuttal for it. Just like this morning on WFNZ. I jump in the car , turn on the radio and the first voice I hear is a tarhole fan whining. All these calls start the exact same , mind you , regardless of sport. "Uhhh , yeah , hi there. I'm a lifelong tarheel fan and I just wanted to comment on yada yada yada...." Anyway , after the usual preamble , the hole goes on to say that he's "realistic." Why? Because he KNOWS when his holes travel to CIS , they're gonna be playin' " 8 on 5." Jack-azz was serious too. Clearly , "in his mind" , unx NEVER benefits from home-cooked officiating. |

I, as a newbie with NO allegiance, noticed the ref and press bias immediately. One of the reasons I refused to cheer for the baby blue. |
