N.C. State got a career night from Dennis Horner – and a little help from the South Florida clock operator – and pulled out a 58-57 win over the Bulls in the first round of the NIT on Tuesday night.

OK, for those who didn't get to see the game, here's what went down. nc state was inbounding the ball with about 13 on the game clock, 6 on the shot clock. javi threw the ball to midcourt. scott wood took possession in the back court and the clock did not start. wood threw a long pass to howell who laid it in to give state a one point lead. the refs watched the video with a stop watch and determined that howell did release the ball withing six seconds.............but put 8, not 7, seconds on the clock for usf. the clock operator HELPED the bulls...not nc state. far be it for the RALEIGH paper to research the facts and get it right. much easier to make it look like state shouldn't have won, right?

but, no media bias at all

I fully expect unc-ch to win, but it is funny to see 5 white dudes tied with them with 12 minutes to go. Especially when unc-ch has been given every advantage that they haven't earned.

bias, that's how. duke fan came into work today, smart guy, said to me "nice win" and gave a little wink as if we were on the inside of something. i explained the clock issue and the 31-10 free throw issue. he shut his fuccccccking eye forever, lol.

I agree. It may have been slightly closer to 2 seconds but who's counting. Obviously not the zebras who sat over there analyzing the footage. Geez Louise,the damn tv announcer got the time MUCH closer than the refs did. State got hosed but fortunately it didn't matter. I watched a lot of that game and USF is no joke. Woulda been a shame to lose that one on some bs when the Pack played well enough to win.

Because that's the type of shet that happens to both State and Duke when NC sportswriters cover their games. There was an issue with the clock,right? That's all the info needed to write a story. Clearly, (insert State or Duke) benefited from some fortuitous officiating. No one actually WATCHES what happens on the court. They (journalists) simply perceive any controversy (no matter how minor) as an unfair advantage to (insert State or Duke.) Why waste time with details,right?

I'll take a stab at it. Honestly,I didn't watch the entire game but,contrary to tarhole belief,jump shooters DO get fouled from time to time. Your fanbase whined the loudest and longest about all the free throws that JJ took. Well,anyone who took a lousy 2 seconds to actually WATCH the guy play could see that he was kicked,tripped,grabbed,punched,scattered,smothered and covered as he ran around all those screens. Plus,he was the focal point of every opponents' defense. IOW,it ain't like he pulled up a lounge chair just outside the circle and waited to shoot wide-azz-open treys all freakin' game. That guy would rather shoot with a hand in his face than eat when he's hungry and fortunately for him he was good at it. That said,W&M got some good looks but they also had some that were contested. Are we to understand that every guarded 3 taken by the Tribe was devoid of defensive contact? At all?

a) never foul on offense in the post even when they "pound it inside",
b) never foul the opponents shooters- especially if they are 3 point shooters,
c) never have enough fouls of any kind in a single half of play to send the opposition to the line for a one and one, or (heaven forbid) a two shot bonus
d) Karl Hess loves it when Roy "pounds it inside"
e) all of the above
