Which means Roy sits players in foul trouble WAYYYYY too long. That's what you are getting at, right? wink.gif

Lee neglected to mention that unc is tied with SEVERAL teams for 4th, and that there is an ACC team with fewer.

Yeah, but unc has many, many more possessions per game...right?

unc has more possessions than most teams, meaning there are more chances of fouling per game. unc has less DQ's than nearly all teams. But a myth was destroyed? laugh.gif

And here's your myth..

FACT: Six teams got to the line MORE FREQUENTLY than the Tar Heels. the fact that unc shot at the highest volume is irrelevant.

Disqualification has so many variables it's impossible to judge. For example, Coach K left Nolan Smith in yesterday with 4 fouls. Roy would not have done so. therefore Nolan Smith had a MUCH higher chance of fouling out under K than if Roy was his coach. This has nothing to do with how the refs treat unc.

Horse and shyte. For years we heard that unc got to the line more because of " coaching ". Then they miss the ncaa's last year and STILL got to the line more. Oh, well unc fans were quick to move the goalpost, see now it was " style of play ". Neveryoumind that nosejob got away with assault for four years.

Like I said before - * DELUSIONAL * - fanbase.

Bullshit. Roy only had 8 scholarship players...or at least that's what you preached when bucking for ACC COY.

John Henson has never had more than 3 fouls in a game, despite his prolific shot blocking.
Zeller never fouled out.
Barnes never fouled out despite taking on the best offensive player most games.

Hell, LDII got DQ'ed twice, so only 2 active players have been DQ'd.

Tyler fukkin' Hansborough was one of the most , if not THE most , physical players I've ever seen play the game. Yes , he absorbed tons of contact but he also initiated an azzload of it. Don't recall him EVER fouling out much less sitting for extended periods of time with foul trouble. Not sure if that observation proves or disproves any of the notions being tossed around here but I just wanted to say it. wink.gif

Roy balances out his players minutes as well as any coach in the nation. I keep getting accused of never providing stats, so here's the proof that Roy's players simply play fewer minutes (Hint: better have a nice scroll wheel on your mouse if you want to hunt for unc players):

http://kenpom.com/playerstats.php?s=PctMin...=2011&f=ACC

Fewer minutes = smaller chance of disqualifying. This isn't hard to grasp.

Keep in mind I've ALREADY PROVEN that unc draws fouls at the league average rate. Any more bitching?

That doesn't tell ya sh!t.

What matters is how many fouls per minute played and also how many FTA per minute played.
Then compare that to other players in that same position.

Fine. In your opinion, are you more likely to accumulate 5 fouls over 40 minutes of play or 20 minutes of play?

wopack, true that would be more helpful (although comparing across positions is probably impossible, players change positions according to what lineup is out there)

So, here's that data (just took the data for fouls and the data for minutes, imported them to excel and divided them, hence no link)

Unfortunately the forums hate copying and pasting straight from excel to the board (numbers are all jumbled) so, in picture form (EDIT: Obv last column is minutes/foul, not fouls/minute):

IPB Image
IPB Image

Again, nothing to see here. unc is in the middle of the pack in fouls in any way you look at it regarding minutes, possessions, etc. The ONLY reason it LOOKS inflated is because they have so many more possession then everybody else. That's it.

Well if you're tyler handsbrough, you could play for 160 minutes and MAYBE accumulate 5 fouls - TOTAL.
