No. LA nevered offered Roy but they did contact him before they contacted K. Roy quietly turned it down while K strung them along publically under the guise that he was actually considering it just so he could strong-arm dook.

They Karl and Brown both "withdrew" their names saving the school the embarrassment of being turned down. doormatt accepted about 4 days later.

Don't forget Fogler, wasn't he in that mix too?

George Karl was never considered for the job and neither was Larry Brown. Karl wanted the job and was pissed off about not being even interviewed.

Keep speadin' them lies, count peckerhead.

Doherty, 38, became the leading candidate after last week's decision by Williams not to take the job at his alma mater. Milwaukee Bucks coach George Karl and Philadelphia 76ers coach Larry Brown, who both played for UNC under Dean Smith, took their names out of the running Monday.

If they weren't being considered why would they take their names out of consideration?

Reminds me of this classic:

I bet 'ol Royboy accepted the Laker's coaching job and then later turned it down too. Remember how he was so happy to tell everyone they offered it to him too once word leaked they offered K 40 million. I imagine the scenario went something like this.

Mitch Kupchak (in LA speaking to Dean Smith in Chapel Hell via speakerphone) - Hi Dean how is it going?

Dean (in his office in the Dome) - It's going fine; I was just removing any notion of Doherty as head coach from our website, what's up?

Roy (walks into Dean's office and sits down).

Mitch - I wanted your input on something, I know how all your protégé's are supposed to run any decisions by you before acting on them. Phil Jackson is leaving and we need a new coach. (Roy's ears perk up) I was thinking of offering 40 million to ..

Roy (interrupting) - I'll take it!!!!

Mitch - ummm Roy, I wasn't ..

Roy (interrupting) - I'll take it!!

Mitch - but Roy, I wasn't offering it to…

Roy (interrupting) - wait, I better think about this. I don't want to make any hasty decisions - golly gosh darn it. No, I can't do it Mitch, Dean needs me here to help clean up the mess Doherty left behind.

Mitch - ok, great Roy, you stay there with Dean. As I was saying, Dean, I'm thinking of offering 40 million to Coach K to come lead us back to greatness.

Dean - I think that would be a great idea. I know he sure schooled me. He's won more Championships than I did, and I mean won, not tripped over or backed into them like I did. I think that would be a great choice Mitch.

----- The above was a dramatic re-creation of a scene that may have actually taken place.

yeah Count. Too bad the thread isn't about who was being considered instead of who was offered and who turned UNC down. Karl and Brown both had facetime ourt of respect but neither of the two was ever a candidate due to contractual issues. Fogler? what the fvck are you babbling about now?

"Family" would never dishonor don deano by giving him 3 rejections in a row!lol
roywonderboy already blackened dean's eye so you know Brown and Karl wouldn't.
I know that's hard for you to see in your drunken stupor but its pretty obvious to anyone that hasn't had the 'blue coolaid'.

Williams 'staying' at Kansas
Monday, June 26, 1989

It took awhile -- nearly three days -- but Kansas basketball coach Roy Williams finally was able to tell Ohio State athletic director Jim Jones he wasn't interested in the Buckeyes' post.

Or Florida in '90....?
QUOTE
If Florida University had its way, Roy Williams, not Kansas State's Lon Kruger, might be the Gators' head basketball coach today.

"I told them no nine days ago," the Kansas coach said Tuesday after returning from Denver. "I visted with them (Florida officials) twice. They wanted me to fly down, and at that point I told 'em I wasn't interested. They then asked me about three candidates. Lon was one of 'em. Obviously, I had nothing but good things to say about Lon Kruger."

Williams' position was simple. "I told them I felt very comfortable here, was very happy here and felt a sense of loyalty to these people here and this university."

Still Williams, heeding the advice of friends in the coaching business, felt he owed it to himself and his family to check out preliminary specifics of the Gator post.

Lakers interlude one more feather in Williams' cap

NBA teams keep trying to woo Roy
By Gary Bedore, Assistant Sports Editor

Tuesday, July 28, 1998

Say this about NBA general managers: They are persistent.

Two more NBA teams tried to steal away Kansas' Roy Williams in recent months. Two teams failed, meaning the NBA is 0-for-12 in its contacts with Williams the past four years.

"Both were very serious," Williams said, referring to the Charlotte Hornets and an unnamed club, believed to be the Dallas Mavericks. "I told both of them I didn't have any interest. One was over with in one phone call. One took two phone calls.
