it was a "small" act in one sense of the word, but not the one you want it to mean.

I guess I just don't understand how this is a huge story.

For the record to anyone wondering, if Roy had pulled the last starters there would have been no technical foul assessed. The game simply would have ended.

"The referee shall forfeit the game if a team refuses to play after instructed to do so by any official...If the team to which the game is forfeited is ahead, the score at the time of forfeiture shall stand."

he quit a game because he was losing by 30 points. how many teams has unc beaten by 30? a lot. did any of them give up? no. it is the pettiest thing i have ever seen in sports.

he was going to leave without his team until hamilton told him to get the bitches off the court too
he left 5 players on the floor without a coach
he then lied about the reason
he then blamed it on hamilton
he then changed his excuses multiple times
he had kirschner (sp?) lie for him

the fact that none of that means anything to you isnt suprising. its why EVERYONE hates unc-ch.

SSSOOoooooo you're saying that any time anyone is being soundly defeated on the road they should just walk off and foreit?!

Interesting take on that chump.

Roy didn't leave because they lost by 30. He left because the fans were about to storm a court and they had an incident with it just a few weeks ago.

Shit, Roy lost to Duke by more than that in 2010, you'd think he would have done it then if he was just pissed about losing. The difference is duke fans weren't going to storm the court.

So after alllllll the beatings unc has taken through the years, you think Roy just finally snapped with this one? It had nothing to do with the throngs of people lining up to storm the court?

under your theory:

why leave the walk ons?
why did FSU stay on the court?
why didnt the refs call the game?
if he was protecting his team, how did he not realize 5 of them were missing?

roy lied, the walkons died

QUOTE
There are only two possibilities I can think of, and I'm not sure which is more embarrassing for Roy.

1 - He intended to go hide, with or without his starters (seems like he was ready to high-tail it without them until Hamilton pointed them out, then he waved for them to follow him). He was willing to leave some of his guys - the scrubs - behind. What this implies is either total cowardice and selfishness, uninterested in the safety of the guys he left behind, or the morale/perceptions of his team about abandoning the scrubs.

2 - He intended to forfeit the game with 14 seconds to play and hoped to high-tail it out with his entire team, escaping before the FSU fans realized what was going on and had a chance to celebrate. This is better in that he wasn't intentionally abandoning the scrubs, but it's worse in that he thought he was forfeiting a game simply because he was losing. No other reason, just he was losing, and decided to quit.

Both options are cowardly and babyish. The first option seems more cowardly, the second seems more like a baby. But either way ... whether he's more of a coward or more of a baby ... has anybody else ever done this in the ACC?

So get them the hell out of there, right?

What part of this isn't making sense?

Like I said, I still think it's a bitch move. But what about about Roy's story doesn't make sense? Do you think Roy told the walkons to stay? It seemed to me like they had no idea what the hell they were supposed to do.

isnt it roys job to look after them? isnt that what you are saying he was doing? he ran like a bitch and then realized he didnt have 40% of his team with him? something(s) doesnt add up.

or hes a lying liar.

watching you trying to explain it is almost as fun as watching roy and his pr buddies.

Yeah, he obviously did a poor job. No, he probably didn't realize the full team didn't follow him until later. Yes, that shows that he doesn't care very much about the walk-ons.

Can we move on yet? I mean is this really a huge deal? We already know that Roy can be a baby. We've known for years.

Perhaps the curse of the blue hose continues here. The problem with being a deity is that there is only one and it's not Roy. There is a power greater than the he and his holes REGARDLESS of your faith. God, karma, Krzyzewski, Valvano...me! > Roy.

We get it. You want it to go away. Tune in to WFNZ...it ain't goin' away yet.
Dave Glenn is still talking about it.
Zarzour is still talking about it.
And they BOTH think Roy's a pussy. Although they won't call him a liar.

But you expect the carolinasucks message board to shut up about it. Not a chance, pal.

North carolina coach Roy Williams on Monday ended his 10-minute segment of the weekly ACC basketball coaches teleconference early: “I’ve got to go to practice,’’ he said. “…Hope everyone understands.”

" Roy......this is for you. You dropped the ball on this one buddy. You don't ever leave your people behind. Never. YOU should have stayed with those last guys or better yet kept the whole team out there and taken it like the sportsmen you profess to be. It was, to say the least, a very bad move Roy. I am a life long Tar Heel, but I was shocked beyond words as I watched you march our team off the court.

Those boys you left deserved more respect than that. Our opponents deserve more respect than that. And all of us, the fans, deserve more respect than this! Your last act on the court that night had nothing to do with basketball Roy. It was a mental breakdown on your part and the best thing about it is that it was such a great example of what to never do no matter who you are. I will always be a Tar Heel fan, but you've got some work to do Roy. And I think you ought to start right there with that fellow you see in the mirror everyday."
