RE: RW should not have left players out there w/o a coach
FSU should issue an apology for a team having to leave early because they cannot control their fans.

Re: No way DES leaves player on the court
Yeah and 20 years ago no one had hijacked a plane in the US and flew it into a building but it happened. I would much rather something be done now to prevent something bad from happening then let something happen then ask why. I guess you would rather take the risk.

I wonder what you guys would be saying if a crazy fan stabbed one of our coaches or a guy on the bench? I guess then you would say why didn't Roy do something about it before they stormed the court. Roy did the best he could by keeping the guys on the bench in the most dangerous position safe.

If you remember after the UNLV game a drunk fan came after Roy so you never no what might happen in those situations. The NCAA needs to make sure all visiting teams players and staff are off the floor before they allow a team to storm the court.

Email I just sent to FSU's AD, Randy Spetman (his email addy is rspetman@fsu.edu):

Dear Mr. Spetman,

I am a North carolina fan, and was appalled to learn that the safety situation at the Donald L. Tucker Center was such that unc coach Roy Williams had to take his assistants and those players not in the game off the floor with 14.2 seconds remaining in Saturday's game.

Fans were already circling the court with four minutes to go in the game ready to rush the court, and many of them were heavily inebriated since beer is sold at the Tucker Center. Both security and FSU coach Leonard Hamilton were so concerned that they advised Williams to leave the court early and take anyone not in the game to the locker room. Apparently there is a history of dangerous situations during court-rushings. The fact that nothing was done to address this before it got to the point that Williams had to go to the locker room early is unacceptable, and the responsibility for this rests squarely on your shoulders.

You owe unc and the rest of the ACC an apology for allowing such a situation to occur.

It's real easy for you and "your wife" to sit back and judge Roy but you didn't have the luxury of having a seething hoard of drunks breathing down your neck ready to pounce on you and your kids. After all Roy had done for carolina and this program, he doesn't deserve one ounce of criticism, especially over something like this.

WTF is he talking about? "Horde of drunks"? Was the crowd composed of over 21 violent, alcoholics?

"Pounce"? "Wife and kids"? First off, 99% of the PLANET couldn't identify his wife and kids, second, if roy is concerned at ALL about their safety - leave them at home. (Plus it's FSU not maryland. If anything they're high not drunk)

Look at the pic , Dread...

IPB Image

Clearly , the blond in the foreground is about to deliver a drunken ( though no less deadly! ) haymaker to that tarhole scrub. She looks to be in the semi-squating "ninja" position preparing to deliver an open-fisted "thrust" punch to his midsection. God help that poor kid. Hope he survived.

Coach has been pure class through this.

I imagine Coach has been bleating himself to death with guilt, blame, self criticism, and anger. You just know he is stressed and down. He needs our support now more than ever. He has been devastated by this. Please, if you care anything about carolina, don't desert him now. This is his time of great need!

I have to take responsibility for this loss.
I usually wear my wife's underwear for "automatic" wins. This was the first game of the year that I've been able to sit down and watch all the way through. I would have normally had the wife's unmentionables on, but I'm going through a divorce and don't have her underwear anymore - they served the Tar Heels for 22 years! I definitely won the '93 Championship with them. Anyway, sorry.

the botched walkout is the official's fault.
from reading espn's latest article on the end of the fsu/unc game:

"williams says he tried to explain the issue to an official standing in front of the team's bench, but said the referee responded with,"i don't know what to tell you.""

this whole situation could have been avoided so easily if the official did his job there. i can imagine that response to roy from an official would be extremely frustrating. the official is the one in charge of everything that goes on on the court. this crew was not a bunch of rookies either. i was at the game and while it would have been impossible for any amount of security to block the onslaught of students the end of the game could have been handled very easily if the officials were competent.

get the unc bench off of the floor. have fsu dribble the clock out. with ~ 5 seconds have the unc players on the floor run to the corner with the tunnel and bam everyone is out of harm's way. students get to celebrate, unc gets to leave safely. in fact this very same scenario happened with duke 4-5 years ago when fsu fans rushed the floor early and those officials were able to take control of the situation and have jj redick/shelden williams and co escorted to the locker room by florida highway patrol officers.

This.

And yea, I get it. It was a bitch move by Roy, and he should be properly chided for it here.

He pulled his guys of the floor with 14 seconds to play. We got it.

...It's three days, 5 threads and 100+ posts later about the same small act that Roy Williams did. Don't you guys have sh*t to do? Something less obsessive perhaps?

Roy just issued his third recollection of the incident yesterday. We're simply talking about it until he changes his story again.
